Wood blocks - Wall art

I’ve recently finished a small series of wood blocks / wall art… At the moment, I’m calling them wood blocks rather than paintings because they feel quite different to a cradled wood board. They’re made from a solid piece of oak, so feel a little weighty and look solid and chunky.

Each block was sanded and sealed, with multiple rounds of sanding to get the finish right, before creating the painting on the front.

Many hours of work has gone into these original pieces, and I’ve loved working on them, there’s something about working with a raw natural material that feels very wholesome and satisfying.

Layers of bright fluorescent pinks, yellows, and oranges are contrasted with smokey charcoal, indigos, and teals. The sides and back have been left natural, sealed with a clear coat of medium so that the beautiful wood grain can be seen on the edges.

The blocks can be hung or stood in any orientation. I’ve been enjoying styling them with books and changing the orientation now and then for a different feel.

Sizes range from 4.5cm x 7cm up to 9 x 17cm (approx), and they’re all approximately 4cm depth.

They make a great piece of affordable art, perhaps to mix up with some prints in a gallery wall. A great start to an art collection.
